GET the job you want by NETWORKING!

The more people who know you are looking for a specific job the better chances of you getting that job. By networking you are gaining information about the occupation you are interested in by talking with people about the job. You are also gaining employment contacts in the field and establishing your personal network. For example, you tell your Aunt Mary you are looking for a job in the dental field. She tells you that her best friend's boyfriend is a dental hygienist at Dr. Kerper's dental office. You give the boyfriend a call (after careful preparation of your "personal spiel") and he agrees to participate in an informational interview with you. Then he allows you to visit the office to talk to the dentist which later leads to an internship at the office.

For this assignment, read the article by Bill Clayton from the Press Room and answer the following questions:

1. What are the three most important words in networking? And why?

2. What are the eight rules of thumb of networking? Which ones have you tried in the past?

3. Where are the networks for you to use?

4. What is internetworking?

5. Create the perfect scenario for you using networking to get the job you want as in the examples from the reading. Be as specific as possible.
