Acing the Interview

You've passed the first step with your application and resume, now it's time to ace the interview. There are easy to learn strategies to help you manage and control the interview to help you achieve success.

1- You want to sell your ideas, not tell them.
2- Turn negatives into positives.
3- Use the big-to-little strategy when expressing ideas. Start with an overview and then get into details.
4- Know they are already interested in you.
5- Take the initiative. Walk into each interview knowing what information you want to communicate.

Myfuture.com and Jobinterviewquestions.org has some excellent articles on how to prepare for and handle yourself in the interview.

The best way to prepare for an interview is to plan out your answers ahead of time. Instead of being "stumped" when they ask you a question, you will have already thought out your answer. Remember you are also interviewing them for the position to determine if the job is right for you.

For this assignment you will be answering the following interview questions in MS Word. (You should have a specific job in mind that you would like to interview for.)

1. What is one of your strengths and a weaknesses? Remember to turn in weakness into a strength (for example, being a perfectionist.)

2. Tell me about yourself. This is commonly asked in interviews and your answer can make or break the rest of the interview. Make sure you talk about yourself in relation to the job you are interviewing for. Don't talk about your family or where you grew up.

3. At your current job or at school when have you solved a problem and how?

4. List three questions you could ask your interviewer about their company or position?

5. What is your 1 year work goal?

6. What is your 5 year work goal?

7. What do you see yourself doing for work at 27-28 years old?
