Preparing your resume to post online

Note: Students who have not prepared a resume before, must first follow the instructions for a traditional resume and turn one in.

Many times a company requests you to send a text resume or post your resume in an email, with only a specific amount of space. Once in the company's system, a scanner searches for keywords in your resume and if the desired keywords are found, your resume will be looked at by human eyes. Or human eyes may quickly scan an email and does not want to worry about font formats and spacing. There are several techniques to make sure your resume goes onto the next round for you to follow. The first step in making sure this happens is to understand the different formats a company may want your resume to be in.

Read through the Rileyguide.com, and answer the questions below in a MS Word document. After you have read through the guide, alter your saved resume into a plain text version, by following the Preparing a perfect plain text resume guidelines and turn in.  Or if you do not have a saved resume, follow the example and type one of your own.
